Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that explores the representations of females in narratives from popular culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop media. Furthermore she aims to create awareness of online harassment directed at women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. She had a plan to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games and found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She is also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture depictions of women.
